“Taken to Women’s Police Station to Intimidate Us”: MP Iqra Hasan Alleges Police Detained Her During Justice Plea

“Taken to Women’s Police Station to Intimidate Us”: Iqra Hasan Alleges Police Detained Her During Justice Plea

Kairana MP Iqra Hasan on Tuesday accused the Uttar Pradesh police of detaining her after she visited the DIG office in Saharanpur with an elderly woman seeking justice in her son’s murder case.

According to Hasan, the woman, a resident of Jasala village in Shamli district, was dissatisfied with the police investigation into her son’s killing and had approached senior officials for a fair probe. Hasan said she accompanied the victim’s mother to meet DIG Abhishek Singh at his office in Saharanpur.

The Samajwadi Party MP alleged that the elderly woman was not given a proper hearing and left the office upset.

“The woman had come hoping for justice, but she was not given a satisfactory response,” Hasan said. “She became emotional after the meeting, and I felt her concerns were not properly heard.”

Heated Exchange With Police Outside DIG Office

The situation reportedly escalated outside the DIG office, where Hasan said she was discussing the case with the victim’s family in the parking area. She claimed police officials accused her supporters of obstructing traffic and later took her to the women’s police station.

A video from the scene showed a verbal exchange between Hasan and a woman police officer. When asked to move, Hasan objected and said, “Don’t touch me,” while insisting she had not blocked any road.

Speaking to reporters, Hasan alleged that she was kept at the women’s police station for around 10 minutes as an attempt to pressure her.

“We were standing in the parking area, not on the road. Traffic was moving normally. They brought me to the women’s police station to intimidate us,” she said.

The MP also criticised the administration, saying authorities should prioritise hearing victims’ grievances instead of creating hurdles.

“People should not have to struggle for justice. If officials had listened to the victim’s family seriously, this situation would not have happened,” Hasan added.

Police Deny Wrongdoing, Cite Traffic Disruption

Police, however, gave a different version of events. Saharanpur City SP Vyom Bindal said police received information that some people had blocked the road outside the DIG office, affecting traffic movement.

“We received information that some people were creating a traffic jam outside the DIG office. Police immediately reached the spot and restored traffic flow. Legal action is being taken against those involved,” Bindal said.

Police have not officially confirmed whether Hasan was detained or formally taken into custody.

Murder Case Behind the Protest

Hasan had visited the DIG office regarding the death of 25-year-old Monu Kashyap from Jasala village in Shamli. According to police, Monu was found critically injured near a railway track on April 21 and later died during treatment.

Investigators later arrested two of his friends, Sachin and Shubham, accusing them of murder. Police said the dispute began after the accused allegedly pressured Monu to introduce them to one of his girlfriends. After an argument during a drinking session near railway tracks, police claim the two men assaulted Monu and pushed him in front of a train.

However, Monu’s family has continued to demand justice and a fair investigation, prompting Hasan’s intervention.
