In Hyderabad, Telangana’s SHE Teams have arrested nearly 900 men over the past week for allegedly harassing women during the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations near the famous Khairatabad Bada Ganesh idol.
Police said that of the total arrests, 55 men were caught red-handed. “Some of the accused have been counselled, but many will face court proceedings,” a police release stated.
The Khairatabad Bada Ganesh idol attracts huge crowds every year during the festival, especially on the day of immersion. This year, the immersion is scheduled for Saturday, September 5.
Officials said SHE Teams have been working round the clock to ensure women’s safety. “We are on 24/7 duty to make sure celebrations remain safe and secure,” an officer added.
Just a day earlier, three men were also detained in Adilabad for allegedly harassing women during the festivities.
