A fact-finding team comprising the Dalit Bahujan Front, Human Rights Forum and Ambedkar Students’ Association has demanded strict action against those allegedly involved in demolishing a Dalit family’s house in Repalle village of Telangana’s Gadwal district following an inter-caste marriage.
The team said six people have been arrested in connection with the incident.
House Demolished After Marriage
According to the fact-finding team, a Madiga man and a Boya woman married at an Arya Samaj temple in Hyderabad on September 9. The couple later approached Masab Tank police seeking protection.
The team alleged that around 15 members of the woman’s family reached Repalle at around 2 pm on September 10 and demolished the Dalit family’s house using crowbars, a tractor and other tools.
An FIR was registered on the same day, the team said.
“Strict action must be taken against the accused who demolished the house of Dalits,” the team said.
Team Seeks Compensation and More Arrests
DBF national secretary P. Shankar, HRF activist Sanjeev, ASA spokesperson and High Court advocate Eddu Divakar, and social activist Bhaskar visited the village to assess the situation.
Gadwal DSP Mogulaiah also inspected the site on Saturday.
The fact-finding team demanded the arrest of all those allegedly involved in the demolition as well as those accused of instigating the incident. It also sought the inclusion of property damage provisions in the FIR.
The team demanded compensation under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act to help the family rebuild its house.
