Police in Telangana’s Siddipet district have arrested four men and apprehended three minors in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a 16-year-old girl, police said on Saturday, October 24.
According to Maddur Inspector MD Asif, all seven accused were known to the girl and had befriended her. He said they allegedly assaulted her over the past few months. One incident took place during the ten-day Dasara festival, when the girl was alone at home.
The case came to light after the girl did not return home, which worried her family. They then learnt that she had gone with the accused persons and had been sexually assaulted. Her mother filed a complaint, and police registered a case under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
During the investigation, the four adult accused were arrested and remanded to judicial custody by a court on Friday. The three juveniles were apprehended and sent to a state-run Children’s Home for Boys, the inspector said.
This report does not name the accused or the village, and does not say whether the girl has been given medical examination. Under Indian law, the identity of a child survivor of sexual offences, and of juveniles in conflict with the law, cannot be disclosed.
