On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, discussing the escalating conflict in West Asia.
He stressed that “terrorism has no place in our world” highlighting the importance of preventing further regional tensions and securing the release of hostages. He reiterated India’s commitment to supporting peace and stability in the region.
“Terrorism has no place in our world. It is crucial to prevent regional escalation and ensure the safe release of all hostages. India is committed to supporting efforts for an early restoration of peace and stability,” he said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
The ongoing conflict, which followed the captivation of Israeli citizens by Hamas in October last year, has intensified. Israel has expanded its retaliatory strikes, targeting Hezbollah and Yemen’s Houthi rebels, both of which have shown support to the people of Gaza.
Israel has also conducted airstrikes in Lebanon and has notified the United States of its plans for a limited ground offensive, according to the Washington Post.
On Saturday, Israel claimed it had eliminated Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah during a strike on the group’s command center in Beirut. Meanwhile, hardliners in Iran have called for extreme measures against Israel, including closing the critical Strait of Hormuz and advancing nuclear weapons development.
Netanyahu responded that no location in the Middle East is beyond Israel’s reach.
Lebanon’s Prime Minister Najib Mikati, during a meeting with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot in Beirut, has urged for a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
