‘They Chased Him Down and Killed Him’: 20-Year-Old Jafar Qazi Allegedly Murdered in MP’s Khargone

On July 29, Jafar Qazi, a 20-year-old Muslim youth, was allegedly beaten to death by a group of men in Chandanpuri, Khargone district, Madhya Pradesh. The incident occurred after Jafar had gone fishing with his father and a relative at a nearby pond.

According to Anwar, Jafar’s brother-in-law, Jafar accidentally entered a field owned by Satya, which is technically government land. Anwar said, “Satya abused him, and Jafar tried to retreat, leading to a scuffle. Jafar pushed him, and then Satya called some men for help.”

Jafar’s father and other fishermen intervened, but Satya’s sons pursued Jafar. “Satya’s sons chased him down, and since Jafar’s father suffers from asthma, he couldn’t keep up,” Anwar said. “They beat Jafar to death in the fields. His body was found today.”

Anwar, Jafar’s father, recounted that the owner started abusing his son, chased after him, and beat him. “He called some men on the phone to come with sticks and rods. They arrived on four motorcycles and later beat my son to death,” said Anwar.

He demanded justice, stating, “My son was murdered. The accused should be arrested, and their houses should be demolished.”

Some have suggested Jafar drowned in the pond, but Anwar refutes this claim. “He was a good swimmer and wouldn’t drown easily,” he said.

The local community is demanding justice and calling for police action.

The police said that they received information about Jafar’s death from an informer. Jafar had gone missing on July 30 around 6 pm, and his parents had filed a missing report.

“The search team at the pond in Chandanpuri found his body today. We are investigating the matter,” said a police officer.
