‘They Forced Us Out, Stripped Us, and Paraded Us’: Three Muslim Women Assaulted And Paraded Naked Over Alleged Elopement Incident in UP

In UP’s Kushinagar in the village Nebua Naurangia, a shocking incident came to light. Three Muslim women were beaten and paraded naked over the allegations that their son had eloped with a girl from a Dalit community on January 2.

The maternal family of the girl assaulted the Muslim boy’s mother and his two aunts, paraded them naked around the village and burnt their clothes. The villagers all stood watching and nobody came to rescue the poor women. The assaulters also filmed the act while forcibly parading them.

The Dalit girl is married and stays in the Gulriha police station area in Gorakhpur. A few days earlier, the girl had gone missing and a Muslim youth was accused of eloping with her.

Speaking to the media, one of the women alleged, “They barged into our home, assaulted us, forcibly removed our clothes, dragged us out and paraded us all around the village.”

Reportedly, when the assaulters barged into their home, three women told them that they did not know where their girl might be. On hearing this, they were enraged and started to hit the women.

Another woman, the aunt of the boy, claimed, “Nine women and four men beat us and burnt all our clothes.”

After the incident, the mother of the boy became seriously ill. After undergoing treatment, she and the other women are staying at a relative’s place due to fear of safety.

The SHO has stated that allegations of the women claiming that they were assaulted and paraded naked haven’t been proven yet. A case of assault and writing has been registered from both sides. A case is also registered by the girl’s in-laws in Gulriha police station of Gorakhpur.
