‘They Stripped Me, Urinated on My Face’: Bengaluru Social Worker Accuses BJP MLA Munirathna, 3 Others of Gang Rape; FIR Filed

A 40-year-old social worker from Bengaluru has accused a sitting BJP MLA and three of his associates of gang-raping her in June 2023. She filed a police complaint this week, naming RR Nagar MLA Munirathna and three others—Vasantha, Channakeshawa, and Kamal—as the accused.

The woman, who claims to be a BJP worker, alleged that the assault took place at Munirathna’s office near JP Park in Mathikere. She said the men stripped her, raped her, and urinated on her face. They also injected her with an unknown substance and threatened to kill her son if she resisted.

“Munirathna encouraged the others to rape me. Later, he urinated on my face,” the victim said in her police statement. She added that an unidentified man gave the MLA a syringe, which was then injected into her shoulder. “He warned me that my family would be destroyed if I spoke out,” she alleged.

The woman further claimed that before the incident, she was arrested in “false cases” filed at Peenya and RMC Yard police stations under Munirathna’s influence. After her release, two accused took her to the MLA’s office, promising to help drop the cases—but instead, she was assaulted.

She later fell seriously ill and was hospitalized in January, where she discovered she had contracted a virus. Distraught, she attempted suicide on May 19 by overdosing on pills.

Police have registered an FIR under multiple charges, including gang rape, criminal intimidation, and spreading infection. “We are investigating the case and may transfer it to the Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is already probing other cases against Munirathna,” a senior officer said.

No arrests have been made yet.
