The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has strongly criticized the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2025, which was recently passed by both houses of Parliament. The Board has called the approval of the bill a “stigma” on India’s democracy and vowed to take action against it.

Mawlana Muhammad Fazlur Raheem Mujaddidi, General Secretary of the AIMPLB, said, “The ruling party, intoxicated with power, has crossed all limits. Instead of addressing its failures, it is promoting sectarian hatred in the country.” He added that the bill, which claims to be beneficial for Muslims, is actually harmful and unacceptable.

The AIMPLB’s opposition is based on concerns that the bill reduces Muslim control over Waqf properties, which are religious endowments under Islamic law. Mujaddidi criticized the government’s lack of response to the concerns raised by Muslim organizations, civil society, and opposition parties. “The government ignored the voices of Muslims and others who care about justice,” the board said. “This is an oppressive attitude that does not belong in a democratic country.”

In response to the passing of the bill, the AIMPLB has announced plans for a nationwide protest movement. The organization also intends to take legal action against the bill. “We are working on the details of both the protest and legal challenges,” the AIMPLB said. “When the time comes, we will call on all Muslims and justice-loving citizens to join the movement and demand the withdrawal of this harmful bill.”

The AIMPLB also expressed gratitude towards opposition MPs who spoke out against the bill in Parliament. “We appreciate their support and hope they will continue to stand with us in this fight,” AIMPLB said. However, it criticized the leaders of the BJP’s allies, including Nitish Kumar, Chandra Bahu Naidu, Chirag Paswan, and Jayant Chaudhary, for supporting the bill. “These leaders have betrayed the Muslim community,” it said. “Muslims supported them for their secular image, but now they have chosen their own political interests over the well-being of Muslims.”

The AIMPLB made it clear that it will not back down. “We will not abandon our demands, and we will not be intimidated,” AIMPLB said. “The entire Muslim community stands behind us, and we will continue to fight for justice.”

The AIMPLB is calling for the government to withdraw the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, warning that it will create serious problems for the Muslim community. “The government must realize its mistake and recall the bill.”
