In anticipation of the 31st anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition, the local administration in Ayodhya has bolstered security measures, with the police implementing strict arrangements to maintain order and prevent any potential disturbances.
As December 6 approaches, marking the anniversary of the event, Ayodhya Police announced on Tuesday that heightened security protocols have been put in place throughout the city. Surveillance through CCTV cameras has been intensified, and individuals travelling to and from Ayodhya are subjected to identity card checks.
Officials reported an increase in vehicle checks in various areas of Ayodhya to fortify security measures. Rajkaran Nayyar, the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) in Ayodhya, urged the public to avoid spreading rumours and creating confusion during this sensitive time.
“The police administration in various areas of Ayodhya district is prepared, with teams assigned to different sectors. Additional police forces from nearby districts and the Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) of the UP Police have been deployed. A robust police system has been established to prevent untoward incidents,” stated SSP Nayyar.
He said that social media teams are monitoring and verifying information shared through various platforms. The SSP cautioned against the dissemination of rumours and highlighted the special focus on securing important locations in Ayodhya.
The Babri Masjid, a historic mosque, was demolished on December 6, 1992, by a large group of ‘kar sevaks.’ The aftermath saw widespread violence, with a significant number of Muslim residents in Ayodhya falling victim to ransacking, arson, and destruction. Riots erupted in various parts of the country, resulting in the tragic loss of over 1,000 lives.
