Two doctors were arrested after an AK-47 rifle was recovered from the locker of a senior resident doctor at the Government Medical College (GMC) in Anantnag, the Jammu and Kashmir Police said on Saturday.
According to police officials, the seizure was made during an operation by Srinagar Police, and the two doctors hail from Qazigund and Pulwama districts.
“Two doctors have been arrested and one AK-47 rifle has been recovered,” a senior police officer confirmed. “An investigation is underway.”
The rifle was found inside the personal locker of one of the doctors at GMC Anantnag. Following the recovery, both were taken into custody by Srinagar Police.
A case has been registered under Sections 7/25 of the Arms Act and Sections 13, 28, 38, and 39 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act).
Authorities said they are probing how the weapon ended up inside the hospital premises and whether a larger network or motive was involved. Other staff members are also being questioned.
Police sources said all legal protocols are being followed and that the origin of the rifle is still under investigation.
“The AK-47 is with Srinagar Police,” a senior officer added. “Further details will be shared as the inquiry progresses.
