Two Muslim men, an uncle and nephew, were allegedly assaulted by local residents in a residential colony in Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar district late Sunday evening after they arrived there to sell clothes.

The victims have been identified as Aamir Malik and Javed, who reportedly work as hawkers selling garments.

According to reports and the victims’ account, the two had gone to Vasundhara Colony in the Nai Mandi Kotwali area of Muzaffarnagar after allegedly being called by a resident to sell clothes.

It is alleged that some local residents stopped the uncle-nephew duo, questioned them about their identities and later assaulted them after learning they were Muslims.

Videos circulating on social media appeared to show the two men injured and covered in blood, prompting calls online for action against those responsible.

Police Reach Spot, Victims Taken for Treatment

After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and shifted the injured men for medical treatment.

According to senior police officials, preliminary inquiry suggests that Aamir and Javed are garment hawkers with no criminal record.

Raju Kumar Sao, Circle Officer of Nai Mandi, said police received information on Sunday evening that two individuals had been detained by local residents in Vasundhara Colony under suspicious circumstances.

“Police immediately reached the spot and gathered information about the incident. It came to light that the two individuals were identified as Aamir Malik and Javed,” the officer said.

Investigation Ongoing

Police said they are investigating all aspects of the case and have not yet issued a final statement on the circumstances that led to the assault.

Authorities are also examining videos and accounts related to the incident to determine responsibility and whether legal action will follow.
