Two Muslim Men Lynched on Suspicion of Theft in UP’s Nayagaon, Police Vehicles Damaged in Clash

mob lynching

Two Muslim men were attacked by a mob in the Nayagaon police station area on Friday night after being falsely accused of theft. The incident later led to chaos at the police station where the men had been taken for safety.

Fahim, one of the victims, said that he and his relative Firoz were returning home after attending a Chehlum procession when a group of men stopped them and accused them of being thieves. “We kept telling them we were not thieves but the mob didn’t listen to us. They beat us with sticks,” he said.

A police patrol team arrived at the spot and rescued the two men, taking them to the local police station. But the situation escalated when a large crowd gathered outside and demanded that the men be handed over to them. When the police refused, the mob began throwing stones, damaging a police vehicle.

Superintendent of Police Rajkumar Singh said, “Additional force was sent to the police station, which used mild force and fired tear gas shells to disperse the crowd. The two injured men were medically examined and are in a stable condition.”

He added that a case has been registered against five identified persons and around 50 others under various sections of the law. A heavy police force has since been deployed in the area, and officials said the situation is now under control.
