Two armymen have died and two others were injured as an encounter between militants and forces continued for the ninth consecutive day in the Akhal forest area of South Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Officials said that four soldiers were injured in heavy gunfire late last night, and two of them later succumbed to their injuries. This gunfight, which began over a week ago, is now the longest-running operation in the Valley this year.
On the first night of the encounter, one militant was killed and four army personnel were injured. So far, nine forces personnel have been injured since the operation began.
Authorities said the dense and vast forest terrain has made the search and combat efforts more challenging, and the operation is expected to continue. Further details are awaited.
