Two young men were found hanging from the same noose from a tree in a field near Adampur village in Madhya Pradesh’s Vidisha district on Sunday morning, triggering suspicion among their families and local residents.
The deceased were identified as 22-year-old Akash Meena, son of Udham Singh Meena, and 21-year-old Arif alias Babu, son of Shahzad Ali. The two were friends and neighbours and regularly worked together in agricultural fields.
Bodies Found Near Village
According to police, the two men were found hanging from the same noose from a tree in a field around 200 metres from the village.
Personnel from Civil Lines police station reached the spot after receiving information and brought the bodies down. They were later sent to a medical college for post-mortem examination.
A forensic team and senior police officers also inspected the scene and questioned local residents as part of the investigation.
Police said the circumstances surrounding the deaths are still being examined and that the post-mortem report will be important in determining the cause of death.
Families Suspect Foul Play
The families have expressed suspicion that the two men may have been murdered.
Some villagers also claimed that injury marks were visible on the bodies and that their feet were touching the ground when they were found hanging. Police have not confirmed these claims.
Authorities are questioning family members and villagers and examining all possible circumstances surrounding the deaths. No conclusion has been reached about whether the deaths were suicides or involved foul play.
Friends Who Worked Together
Akash and Babu lived in neighbouring houses and were known to be close friends. They regularly worked together in the fields.
The two worked on their own agricultural land and also took up farm labour for other farmers when work was available.
Villagers said they were not aware of any dispute involving either man.
Akash was the elder of two brothers and had married a few months ago. His family does not own agricultural land and depends largely on labour work.
Babu was the youngest of three brothers and also had a sister. His family owns around four bighas of land and depends on farming and agricultural labour.
Police Await Post-Mortem Report
Civil Lines police are continuing to investigate the case. Officers are questioning people who knew the two men and examining the circumstances at the spot.
Police said the exact cause and circumstances of death would become clearer after the post-mortem examination and further investigation.
