Union Cabinet Denounces Red Fort Explosion, Calls It ‘Cowardly Act of Terror’

PM Modi

The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday expressed deep grief over the loss of lives in the recent Delhi blast near the Red Fort and passed a resolution condemning the attack as a “heinous act of terror” carried out by “anti-national forces.”

During the meeting, the Cabinet observed two minutes of silence to honour the victims and extended condolences to their families. It also praised the swift action of emergency and medical personnel who helped those injured in the explosion on November 10.

In a statement, the Cabinet said it “unequivocally condemns this dastardly and cowardly act that has led to the loss of innocent lives” and reaffirmed India’s “unwavering commitment to a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”

Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, addressing the media after the meeting, said, “The country has witnessed a heinous terrorist incident near the Red Fort. The Cabinet has directed that the investigation be pursued with the utmost urgency and professionalism so that the perpetrators, their collaborators, and their sponsors are identified and brought to justice without delay.”

He added that the situation was being closely monitored at the highest levels of the government. “The Cabinet reaffirms the government’s steadfast resolve to safeguard the lives and well-being of all Indians, consistent with its enduring commitment to national security and the safety of every citizen,” Vaishnaw said.

The resolution also noted the global support India has received after the tragedy, appreciating “the statements of solidarity from governments around the world.”
