Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday convened a high-level security review following the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, directing agencies to “hunt down each and every culprit” involved and warning that those responsible “will face the full wrath of our agencies.”
The meeting, held at Shah’s residence, included senior officials such as Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan, Intelligence Bureau Director Tapan Deka, National Investigation Agency (NIA) chief Sadanand Vasant Date, and Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha. Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat joined virtually. Shah instructed investigators to leave no angle unexplored in determining how the blast occurred and who orchestrated it.
“Chaired review meetings on the Delhi car blast with senior officials. Instructed them to hunt down each and every culprit behind this incident. Everyone involved in this act will face the full wrath of our agencies,” Shah posted on X.
The explosion, which took place on Monday evening when a slow-moving Hyundai i20 stopped at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort, killed eight people and injured several others. Preliminary indications suggest the blast could be a terror act, prompting the Ministry of Home Affairs to hand the case over to the NIA for a full-scale investigation under counter-terrorism laws.
The NIA will now take the lead in probing all aspects of the incident, including the materials used in the explosion and possible terror links. Forensic teams from the National Security Guard (NSG) and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) had already collected evidence at the blast site, and a joint NIA-FSL team revisited the location on Tuesday morning to gather additional samples.
The security review also considered a possible connection with a massive cache of explosives seized from Faridabad on Monday. Authorities across multiple states have heightened security measures, and all leads are being pursued aggressively. The NIA is expected to formally register an FIR soon and take over all evidence collected by the Delhi Police, ensuring a coordinated and thorough investigation into the attack.
