A clash during the Durga idol immersion procession in Mahasi, Bahraich district, on October 13, 2024, resulted in one death and several injuries. The deceased has been identified as 22-year-old Ram Gopal. The injured include Sudhakar Tiwari (22), Ranjan (31), Divyang Satyawan (42), and Akhilesh Bajpai (52).

The violence broke out when stones were thrown and gunshots were fired at the procession, with some individuals reportedly disconnecting the microphone used during the event. In response to the unrest, a heavy police presence has been established in the area, and senior district officials are closely monitoring the situation.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath condemned the violence and instructed authorities to take strict action against those responsible. He said, “Those who spoil the atmosphere in Mahasi of Bahraich district will not be spared. Safety is guaranteed to all, but instructions have been given to identify the rioters and those whose negligence led to the incident.” He assured that the idol immersion would proceed as planned and urged administration and police officials to communicate with religious organizations to ensure a smooth process.
