The Uttar Pradesh government has issued an advisory banning the display of weapons during the Kanwar Yatra. DJs and religious songs will be played within permissible noise limits throughout the month-long yatra, which runs from July 22 to August 19.

Key decisions were made during a review meeting in Meerut involving UP officials and representatives from neighbouring states, reported India Today.

Chief Secretary Manoj Kumar Singh and DGP Prashant Kumar led the meeting, which included officials from Uttarakhand, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, and six divisions of western Uttar Pradesh.

The discussions focused on the yatra’s route, traffic management, and security measures.

According to Siasat, the DGP Prashant Kumar said that changes have been made in the traffic system in view of the Yatra. The entry of heavy vehicles will be banned on the routes from which the Yatra starts. Additionally, heavy vehicles will be banned from midnight on July 21 on the Delhi Motorway, Dehradun Motorway, and Chaudhary Charan Singh Kanwar Marg.

Kanwar Yatra will be monitored through CCTVs and drones.

He said normal traffic on Ayodhya-Basti Road would be restricted as a huge number of devotees use it. Only ambulances and other emergency vehicles would be allowed on it, he stated.

Kanwariyas are prohibited from carrying spears, tridents, or any weapons. There will be close monitoring of devotees carrying the tricolour flag. Camps will be set up along the route for rest, food, and medical facilities, with special arrangements for women.
