A government schoolteacher was shot dead outside his school in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district on Tuesday afternoon. The accused, identified as 30-year-old Gaurav Rathi, later surrendered at a police station.

Naushad Ahmad, aged between 40 and 43 according to police and local reports, was returning home on his motorcycle after classes ended at Primary School Saupuri under the Najibabad police station area.

Teacher Dies During Treatment at AIIMS Rishikesh

Schoolteacher Taruna Chaurasia reportedly helped Naushad and took him to a private hospital in Najibabad in an e-rickshaw. Due to his critical condition, doctors referred him to AIIMS Rishikesh.

Naushad died during treatment at around 5 pm.

Police reached the spot after receiving information about the shooting and questioned residents. A case is expected to be registered based on a complaint from the victim’s family.

Accused Surrenders With Weapons

Rathi reportedly reached the police station shortly after the shooting and surrendered. Police said he arrived carrying two country-made pistols and six cartridges.

According to Amar Ujala, Rathi allegedly told police that he had shot the teacher three times. He also allegedly accused Naushad of being involved in “love jihad”. Police said they are investigating the statement and the circumstances behind it.

Bijnor Superintendent of Police KK Bishnoi said the accused had surrendered and that the reason for the murder had not yet been established.

Property Dispute Angle Under Investigation

Naushad, a resident of Rahatpur Khurd village, was also involved in property dealing, according to local reports. Police are investigating whether a dispute linked to property or financial dealings led to the shooting.

Village head Mohammad Mustafa said the exact reason behind the killing was still unclear.

Naushad is survived by his mother, two wives and five children. His family is expected to receive his body after the post-mortem examination.

The allegations against the accused and the motive behind the killing are subject to investigation.
