Uttar Pradesh Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against an unidentified person after a video showing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph surrounded by items associated with alleged occult practices surfaced on social media in Mau district.
The video reportedly shows the photograph placed on the ground near a cremation ground on the banks of the Saryu river in the Dohrighat area. Items including a coconut, lemons and orange powder can be seen arranged around the photograph, according to police.
The incident came to light after the video circulated on social media, prompting the police to launch an investigation. The Dohrighat police station registered a case against an unknown person under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Ghosi Circle Officer Satyendra Bhushan Tiwari said the police were investigating who placed the photograph and the items on the riverbank, as well as the reason the video was circulated online.
“We are investigating who placed the Prime Minister’s photograph and the associated ritualistic items on the riverbank, as well as the motive behind circulating the video on social media,” Tiwari said, according to a report by News24.
The police are also examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify the person involved. The cyber cell has been asked to help trace the video’s origin and collect relevant digital evidence.
According to reports, the items shown in the video included lemons with needles reportedly inserted into them, along with a coconut and orange-coloured powder. Their arrangement led to speculation on social media that the incident involved an alleged occult ritual.
However, the motive behind the act and the identity of the person responsible have not yet been established. Police said the investigation was underway and further action would depend on the evidence gathered.
The video has drawn attention online, but the claims surrounding the alleged ritual have not been independently verified.
