Two professors from Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, faced suspension with the allegations that several students managed to pass the exam by just writing ‘Jai shree Ram’ on their answer sheets.
The incident came to light when two students Uddeshya and Divyanshu Singh lodged a complaint and filed RTI alleging that the professors had taken bribes from the students and passed them.
In response, vice-chancellor Vandana Singh ordered the dismissal of two professors, Vinay Varma and Ashish Gupta.
Divyanshu Singh, sought to re-evaluation of the answer sheets of 18 Pharmacy students by providing their roll numbers.
Further investigation revealed that the students who wrote slogans and names of cricketers instead of relevant answers were awarded passing marks and grades of more than 50 percent.
Subsequently, Raj Bhavan initiated the investigation into the matter on Dec 21, 2023.
A committee was formed by the university administration to investigate the matter.when the copies were re-evaluated by the external professors, there was disparity between the marks awarded to the students.
In response to the allegations, The university administration recommended strict action against these professors.
The university is waiting for the Governor’s directive to proceed with the dismissal procedure.
