Egg Seller Succumbs to Injuries After Month-Long Struggle in Hospital Following Police Beating

Vadodara Egg Seller, Mohammad Faizan Sheikh who suffered police brutality on the night of 2nd May and was paralysed for life, succumbed to his injuries on 1st June.

Three policemen thrashed Faizan near Vadodara Railway station for allegedly misbehaving and not complying with the order to shut down his services after 11 pm.

Faizan’s brother Mohammad Mumtaz Sheikh says, “The doctors at the Tri color had already informed me that we wouldn’t survive for long and that eventually happened. He was just 28 years old, and recently married. He shouldn’t have suffered a fate like this, he was too young to die. I hope we will get justice, that’s all I want now”.

Mujahid Nafees, Convener of Minority Coordination Committee (MCC), Gujarat informed that with 307 (Attempt to kill), 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 325 (Punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) 114(Abettor present when an offence committed) and GP act 135 (Penalty for contravention of rules) already registered in the FIR, 307 (Death Penalty) has been added.

“It’s an arduous task to register an FIR against police officers, we had overcome that issue in the early days of the incident and now that Section 302 has been added, we’re hopeful that it will soon work out. It’s all a process, let’s see how long it takes”.
