Shiv Sena UBT chief Uddhav Thackeray on Thursday said he and his cousin Raj Thackeray would remain united and would not part ways after coming together ahead of the upcoming civic elections in Maharashtra.

In an interview with PTI, Uddhav Thackeray dismissed questions about how long the alliance would last and said such speculation was meaningless. “Earlier, people used to ask why we were not together. Now they are asking why we have come together and for how long we will stay together,” he said.

Emphasising unity, he said the decision to come together was taken after careful thought. “These things don’t matter. We have come together after much thought and understanding. Now, we will never part ways and will stay united,” Uddhav Thackeray said.

The statement comes weeks after Uddhav Thackeray and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray announced their first political alliance in nearly 20 years. The tie up was announced ahead of the civic polls scheduled for January 15 in Mumbai and 28 other municipal corporations across Maharashtra.
