Widowed Muslim Woman Abducted, Gang-Raped and Murdered in Bihar’s Madhepura

In Bihar’s Madhepura district, a widowed Muslim woman, Hina Parveen, was allegedly abducted, gang raped and murdered in Bhairavpatti village under the Murliganj police station area.

Hina Parveen, around 30 years old, was the sole caregiver for her children after her husband Mohammad Atabul died about a year ago. She worked as a daily wage labourer to support her family. According to villagers and community members, she was taken from her hut late on the night of January 3 and later found dead about 500 metres away near a thatched structure or threshing area.

Local residents said the crime has shaken the entire village. “This was not just a murder, it destroyed an entire family. Her children are crying for their mother and asking who will look after them now,” a neighbour said.

Several community reports and social media posts allege that Hina was raped by a group of men before her throat was slit and her body dumped. Videos circulating online show her children in deep distress, demanding justice and questioning why no one is listening to them.

Her relatives have named two men, Chandan and Kundan, as suspects, but these claims have not been officially confirmed by the police.

The case has gained traction on social media with the hashtag Justice for Hina Parveen, but it has seen little coverage in mainstream national media so far. Community members say this lack of attention is adding to their pain.

The Bihar State Minority Commission has written to the district magistrate, demanding strict action and a detailed report on the steps taken in the case. In a letter, the commission asked the administration to ensure punishment for the guilty and to submit a status report at the earliest.

Rights groups have called the incident a serious failure of the system. Advocate Asfak Ahmed, associated with a human rights organisation, said, “This is a horrifying crime against a vulnerable woman. The lack of transparent information from authorities is deeply worrying. Justice delayed in such cases only increases fear and mistrust.”
