Woman Gangraped After Accepting Lift in Van in Haryana’s Faridabad, Suffers Serious Injuries

A 25-year-old woman was allegedly gangraped and assaulted by two men after she accepted a lift in a van in Haryana’s Faridabad, police said on Tuesday. The assault left her with serious facial injuries, requiring 12 stitches.

According to police, the incident began late on Monday night when the woman left her home after an argument with her mother to visit a friend. She had informed her sister that she would return within two to three hours, but her departure was delayed and she left close to midnight. Unable to find transport, she reportedly accepted a lift in a van occupied by two men.

Instead of taking her to her destination, the accused allegedly drove towards the Gurgaon–Faridabad Road. Police said the woman was held inside the vehicle for nearly three hours as it moved through isolated stretches amid dense fog, which prevented her from seeking help. Beyond the Hanuman temple on the road, the men allegedly raped her inside the van.

Her cries for help went unheard due to sparse traffic and poor visibility caused by fog and cold weather. Around 3 am on Tuesday, the woman was allegedly pushed out of the moving vehicle near Mula Hotel at Raja Chowk in SGM Nagar, police said.

Despite her injuries, she managed to contact her sister, who rushed her to a hospital in Faridabad. Doctors initially referred her to a Delhi hospital, but her family later admitted her to a private hospital in the city. Police said the woman sustained injuries to her head and face and is currently undergoing treatment. She was declared unfit to record a statement.

Based on a complaint filed by the survivor’s sister, a case was registered at Kotwali police station. The Faridabad crime branch has detained two suspects in connection with the case, and further investigation is underway, police said.
