In Uttar Pradesh’s Jaunpur, a pregnant Muslim woman has alleged that a doctor at the district hospital refused to deliver her baby because of her religion.
The woman, Shama Parveen, said the incident took place on Tuesday night. “The doctor said she will not treat Muslim patients. I was admitted around 9 am, but till now my delivery has not been done. I lay on the bed, but the doctor refused to treat me and even told others not to send me to the operation theater,” she alleged.
Parveen said she confronted the doctor, telling her she was discriminating between Hindus and Muslims. “Still, she ignored me,” she added.
Her husband, Arman, backed her statement. He claimed that the doctor had refused treatment not just for his wife but also for another Muslim woman admitted that day.
“She checked all the patients, but when it came to my wife and another Muslim woman, she refused,” Arman said.
The family has accused the hospital staff of communal discrimination and demanded action against the doctor. Authorities have not yet issued a statement on the matter.
