Congress MP Imran Masood has criticised Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav amid growing political activity ahead of the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections. His remarks came after Akhilesh said his party was preparing for all 403 assembly seats in the state.
Reacting to the statement, Masood said political parties are free to follow their own strategies, but such comments from senior leaders were unnecessary.
“I do not understand why such things are being said. You do your preparation, and we will do ours. You are a very big leader, and such remarks do not suit you,” Masood said while speaking to reporters.
Raises Concern Over Alleged Attacks on Muslims
During his remarks, Masood also brought up issues concerning the Muslim community in Uttar Pradesh, accusing opposition parties of not speaking strongly enough on matters affecting Muslims.
He said, “In Uttar Pradesh, oppression is being inflicted upon Muslims, and your silence is incomprehensible to Muslims.”
Masood questioned why leaders speak openly on certain issues but remain silent on cases involving alleged violence or injustice against Muslims.
“You speak out vociferously about the theft from temple donations, but you fall silent on the issue of Muslims being subjected to violence. This is not making sense,” he said.
Congress-Samajwadi Alliance Question Remains Open
When asked about the possibility of an alliance between the Congress and the Samajwadi Party in future elections, Masood said the final decision would be taken by the party leadership.
“The decision on any alliance is for the party, not for me. I am a disciplined worker and will follow whatever the party decides,” he said.
