A 14-year-old residential student of Al-Amin Mission in Farakka died under mysterious circumstances on Monday evening, triggering concern among her family and local residents. The deceased has been identified as H*, a resident of Hasanpur village under Lakshmipur Gram Panchayat in the Suti police station area of Murshidabad district.
Student Had Joined Mission Four Days Earlier
H* was a Class VII student at the Farakka-based Al-Amin Mission. According to her family, she had been admitted to the residential institution only four days before her death. The circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death have raised questions, with her family alleging discrepancies in the information provided by the mission authorities.
A complaint has been lodged with the police, and the Farakka police have begun an investigation.
Family Questions Conflicting Accounts
According to the family, the mission authorities contacted them on the evening of Monday, August 31, informing them that H* had fallen ill. The family later received another call at around 8:45 pm informing them that their daughter had died.
After receiving the news, Hamida’s family members immediately travelled to Farakka. Her father, Khairul Islam, alleged that the mission authorities gave different accounts regarding the circumstances and timing of her death. According to him, some people associated with the institution said that Hamida had died at around 6:30 pm, while another version suggested that she had been taken to hospital while still alive.
Uncle Claims Family Found No Visible Injuries
H* uncle, Mohammad Siraj, said that the family questioned her classmates after reaching the mission but initially could not find her there.
“When we arrived and asked her classmates, they said she was not there. The school authorities told us that she had died after falling from the fourth-floor roof. However, we did not see any visible injury marks on her body. Her face and hands appeared uninjured. We only noticed foam-like discharge from her nose,” Siraj said.
The family has questioned the mission authorities’ account of the incident and demanded a thorough and impartial investigation to determine how the teenager died.
Mission Says Student Fell From Fourth-Floor Roof
According to the institution, H* fell from the fourth-floor roof and landed in a pond, following which she died. The exact circumstances leading to the fall, however, remain unclear.
The family has rejected the possibility that Hamida died by suicide and has called for the circumstances surrounding her death to be investigated independently.

Police Begin Investigation Into Death
The family has also alleged that the mission authorities failed to provide them with a clear and consistent account of what happened to the student. They have sought clarification regarding when and where H* died and the circumstances in which she was allegedly taken to hospital.
Following the complaint lodged by the family, police have started an investigation. The authorities are expected to examine statements from the mission authorities, teachers and students, as well as other witnesses who may have information about the incident.
