Sheikh Tajuddin (48), a resident of Baghdadiya Masjid area in Kapali, Gausnagar, succumbed to injuries after being brutally beaten with sticks and rods by a mob on December 8 in Sapra village, under Adityapur Police Station in Jharkhand’s Saraikela Kharsawan district. Tajuddin, who was a livestock and vegetable trader, passed away on December 13 after receiving treatment at RIMS Ranchi.
“My father left home after Fajr prayers for his daily business. Around 10 a.m., we received a call from Adityapur police informing us about an accident and that he was being treated at TMH,” his son said. Tajuddin was later shifted to RIMS Ranchi, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was buried on December 14 at Zakir Nagar graveyard in Jamshedpur after Isha prayers.
An FIR has been lodged at Adityapur Police Station by Tajuddin’s family. So far, four accused—Mannu Yadav, Chela Yadav, Sanjay Yadav, and Gautam Mandal—have been arrested. Police are investigating every aspect of the case and continuing raids to nab others involved.
Tajuddin’s nephew expressed anger and grief, saying, “My uncle was a devout man, offering prayers five times a day. Sometimes, he even gave the Azaan at the mosque. It feels like he was attacked only because of his beard and cap.”
The mob claimed Tajuddin was beaten on suspicion of theft, a narrative his family strongly disputes.
