A cattle trader in Maharashtra’s Jalna district was attacked by four suspected cow vigilantes who accused him of transporting cattle for slaughter, police said on Sunday.

Janbaaz Qureshi, the victim, filed a complaint stating that he was returning from a cattle market in Deulgaon Raja town on Saturday when he was stopped by four men allegedly linked to Bajrang Dal.

“They accused me of transporting cattle for slaughter and started beating me up. I was injured before they fled the scene,” Qureshi said in his complaint.

The tehsil police confirmed that a case has been registered against the unidentified attackers. “We have launched an investigation, but no arrests have been made yet,” a police official said.
