Syed Sadatullah Husaini, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), has strongly condemned the passage of the Waqf Amendment Act 2025 in the Lok Sabha, calling it a blatant attack on religious freedom and constitutional rights.

In a statement to the media, Husaini criticized the law as discriminatory, alleging that it erodes Muslim autonomy over Waqf properties while religious trusts of other communities remain untouched. “This Act drastically increases government interference in Waqf management, violating Article 26 of the Constitution, which guarantees religious minorities the right to manage their institutions,” he stated.

Husaini refuted claims made by ruling party members that Waqf Boards are similar to the Charity Commissioner. “This is a misleading argument. Hindu and Sikh endowments have their own exclusive laws, ensuring that only members of those communities oversee their institutions,” he pointed out.

Rejecting the government’s justification that the bill was aimed at curbing mismanagement, Husaini countered: “This Act does nothing to address corruption. Instead, it hands control over Waqf properties to government-appointed officers, increasing political interference—the root cause of past mismanagement.” He also criticized provisions that restrict the establishment of new Waqfs and alter the ‘Waqf by User’ principle, calling them deliberate attempts to weaken Muslim institutions.

Slamming political parties that claim to support secularism yet voted for the bill, he said: “This hypocrisy will be remembered as the worst example of political deception. We urge secular leaders and legal experts to challenge this law, which violates Articles 14, 25, 26, and 29 of the Constitution.”

Husaini expressed full support for the nationwide protests led by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) and other Muslim organizations, asserting that all legal and democratic means would be pursued to overturn this law.
