Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday hailed the upcoming extradition of Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key accused in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks, as a significant diplomatic achievement for the Narendra Modi-led government.

Speaking at the News18 Rising Bharat Summit, Shah said, “Tahawwur Rana’s extradition is a big success of Prime Minister Modi’s diplomacy.”

Rana, currently held in the United States, is expected to be brought to India soon after the US Supreme Court rejected his plea against extradition. Rana is accused of playing a key role in aiding the Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives who carried out the 2008 attacks that killed over 170 people in Mumbai.

“Our effort is to bring to justice those who attack India’s honour, land and people. He will be brought here to face trial and punishment,” Shah said.

Rana’s extradition is being viewed as a diplomatic milestone in India’s long-standing efforts to bring perpetrators of the 26/11 attacks to justice, especially with David Headley, another co-accused, having turned approver in the past.
