In the aftermath of the deadly attack in Pahalgam that left 26 civilians, mostly tourists, dead, security forces have launched large-scale search operations across South Kashmir.

On Friday morning, police and armed forces began raiding homes in Shopian and Pulwama districts.

Officials say these operations are targeting suspected overground workers (OGWs) — people believed to have helped the attackers with shelter, transport, or other support.

“We are thoroughly searching the houses of suspected OGWs as we look for any leads that could help us trace the attackers or their network,” a police official told news agency KNT.

Searches are also being carried out in nearby Anantnag district, as part of a wider effort to break the network behind the April 22 attack.

The attack took place around 2:50 pm in the Baisaran Valley near Pahalgam, a scenic location popular with tourists. It is considered the worst attack on civilians in the region in years and has led to increased security, surveillance, and public concern.

Authorities say they are using both ground intelligence and technical data to track down the attackers and their supporters. The operations are still ongoing.
