The Government of India has issued a strong warning to media outlets in Jammu and Kashmir, asking them to follow strict rules while reporting on security operations in the region.

In a letter sent by the Ministry of Defence on Thursday, the media was told not to show live visuals, real-time updates, or source-based reporting about counter-insurgency actions or military movements.

The Ministry said it is concerned that some media houses are spreading fake or unverified news, which can be dangerous. “The proliferation of unverified news leads to inadvertent assistance to hostile elements, lowers operational effectiveness and endangers the safety of personnel,” the letter stated.

The advisory came after several recent incidents where sensitive information was allegedly shared during ongoing operations, which officials believe could harm national security.

All news agencies, TV channels, digital platforms, and even social media users have been asked to be cautious and act responsibly.

An official from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said, “This is not just about press freedom—this is about national safety. Live updates can cost lives on the ground.”

The warning also refers to an earlier advisory issued last Saturday that directed all media platforms to avoid broadcasting live coverage of military operations.
