One person died and four others were injured after a tent collapsed at the Bageshwar Dham premises in Madhya Pradesh’s Chhatarpur district on Thursday morning due to heavy rainfall.
The incident took place around 7:30 am in Garha village, about 28 km from the district headquarters, when several devotees took shelter under the tent during a downpour, according to Bamitha police station in-charge Ashutosh Shroti.
A metal frame from the tent struck 50-year-old Shyamlal Kaushal on the head, killing him, said his son-in-law Rajesh Kaushal. The family had travelled from Chauri Sikandarpur in Uttar Pradesh’s Basti district to seek blessings from Bageshwar Dham seer Dhirendra Shastri ahead of his birthday on Friday.
“Six of us came by car on Wednesday night. We went to meet the seer around 7:30 in the morning when the rain started. People rushed under the tent, and then it collapsed,” Rajesh said.
Two of the injured were taken to a hospital in Chhatarpur and are reported to be out of danger. The other two suffered minor injuries.
Police are investigating the incident.
