UP Muslim Youth Attacked in Gujarat, Denied Treatment at Delhi NCR Hospitals

Muslim,Gujarat,India

A 26-year-old Muslim youth from Uttar Pradesh was brutally attacked in Gujarat and later denied urgent medical treatment at several hospitals in Delhi NCR.

Mohammad Shoaib, a resident of Bahraich, had left Mumbai on August 14 after failing to find work and was on his way to Delhi in search of employment. His journey turned tragic near Surat railway station when unidentified men assaulted him after he got off the train. He was beaten unconscious and later placed on a train to Delhi by an unknown person.

By the time he reached Hazrat Nizamuddin station in Delhi, Shoaib was weak, starving, and severely injured. His family members traced him after he managed to call and rushed him to hospitals for help. But, according to his uncle, several hospitals refused to admit him.

“He had no food for days, no strength left, and no hospital was ready to help us,” his uncle said in tears.

“Finally, one hospital in Ghaziabad agreed to admit him but only after we deposited ₹4,40,000. We had to borrow money to save him.”

Shoaib underwent surgery after the payment, and doctors say the operation was successful, though he remains too weak to speak much.

Community leaders have condemned both the attack and the denial of medical care. Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi, General Secretary of Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind, said, “This is not just an attack on one individual but a mirror of how Muslims are being treated in the country. We will press for an FIR, for arrests, and for accountability from the hospitals.”

So far, no First Information Report (FIR) has been filed by either Gujarat or Delhi police. Activists have called this silence part of a larger pattern of ignoring crimes against Muslims.

Advocate Firoz Khan, a Delhi-based human rights lawyer, said,“This was a criminal assault. Why has no FIR been filed? Why are the attackers still free? This is how justice is denied.”

Shoaib’s family says they are devastated and struggling with the mounting medical costs. His father, a small farmer, said, “My son only wanted to earn bread for the family. Now he is fighting for his life in a hospital bed. We want justice.”
