Indore authorities have announced a complete ban on the sale of meat in the city on certain upcoming Hindu and Jain festivals.
Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava said on Tuesday that the restriction will be in force on Ganesh Chaturthi (August 27), Dol Gyaras (September 3), Anant Chaturdashi (September 6), and during the Jain festival of Paryushan.
“I have instructed the municipal corporation officials to ensure strict compliance of this ban. Appropriate action will be taken against those who violate it,” the Mayor said in a statement.
Officials added that several members of the Hindu and Jain communities had requested the move, saying it was important to respect their religious sentiments during these festivals.
