Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan once again raised the Kashmir issue during his address at the United Nations General Assembly, calling for its resolution through UN resolutions and dialogue between India and Pakistan.

“In South Asia, we consider the preservation of peace and stability to be of utmost importance. We are pleased with the ceasefire achieved following the tensions last April between Pakistan and India, the tension which had escalated into a conflict,” Erdogan said.

He added that cooperation between the two countries on counter-terrorism is important and stressed, “The issue of Kashmir should be resolved on the basis of resolutions of the UN for the best of our brothers and sisters in Kashmir, through dialogue, we hope.”

Erdogan has repeatedly mentioned Kashmir in his past UN speeches, drawing strong responses from India.

The ceasefire he referred to came after India launched Operation Sindoor in May, targeting terror infrastructure across the border in retaliation to the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people. The strikes triggered four days of clashes before both sides agreed to halt military action on May 10.
