A 22-year-old woman named Sophia Parveen, also known as Rukhsar, died after allegedly being pushed off the third-floor balcony of her apartment in Patna by her live-in partner, Amit Kumar. The tragic incident took place at Soho Nirmala Apartments in the Ashokpuri area.
CCTV footage of the incident, which has gone viral, shows Rukhsar falling from the building and hitting the boundary wall of a nearby school before crashing to the ground. According to police, Amit then took her body to the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in an auto-rickshaw. Another CCTV clip from the hospital shows him placing her blood-soaked body on a stretcher before fleeing the scene.
Rukhsar’s family found out about her death only after a friend saw the news online. They identified her body three days later at the hospital morgue.
Her sister, Shabana Khatoon, said Amit had introduced himself to their family as a police officer. “My sister was studying nursing and working at a private hospital in Patna. One day, she came home with Amit and said he was her friend. He told us he was in the police. He came in a Scorpio car and stayed at our house in Bettiah for a night,” Shabana said.
“We treated him with respect, gave him a room, and the next morning he took my sister back to Patna. We trusted him completely,” she added, describing Rukhsar as “the brightest and most cheerful member” of their family.
Investigations revealed that Amit and Rukhsar had been living together for over a month. The landlord told police that Amit used a fake Aadhaar card to rent the flat and claimed that the couple were husband and wife. “The documents looked genuine, so I didn’t cross-check them,” the landlord said. Police have confirmed that the papers were forged.
A case of murder has been registered at Danapur police station, and authorities have launched a manhunt for Amit Kumar. A lookout notice has also been issued for the auto driver who helped him take Rukhsar’s body to the hospital.
