Two days after Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar was found dead at his home in Chandigarh, the police registered an FIR late Thursday night against the people named in his suicide note.
The FIR was filed at Sector 11 police station under Sections 108 read with 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 3(1)(r) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
A senior police officer confirmed the development, saying, “We have registered an FIR based on the complaint by Amneet P Kumar. The complaint note given by her has been reproduced in the FIR.” When asked about the charges, the officer said, “They pertain to abetment of suicide and the SC/ST Act. We will investigate the allegations that have been made.”
In her complaint on Wednesday, senior IAS officer Amneet P Kumar, who is the wife of the late IPS officer, demanded action against Haryana DGP Shatrujeet Kapur and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarniya under Section 108 of the BNS and other relevant provisions of the SC/ST Act.
Y Puran Kumar, a 52-year-old 2001 batch IPS officer, was serving as Inspector General of Police at the Police Training Centre (PTC) in Rohtak’s Sunaria. He died by suicide on October 7, 2025, after allegedly shooting himself. His body was discovered in the basement of his Chandigarh residence.
In his suicide note, Kumar reportedly named several serving and retired IAS and IPS officers, accusing them of harassment. The police are now investigating the claims made in the note.
