Bajrang Dal Members Attack Kerala Restaurant Near EFLU for ‘Serving Beef’ in Hyderabad

Bajrang Dal EFLU

In Hyderabad, members of the Bajrang Dal allegedly targeted a Kerala restaurant near the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU) for serving beef. The restaurant, Joshyyettan’s Kerala Thattukada, located near the Osmania University campus, was attacked on Friday evening when a group of vigilantes tried to forcibly shut it down.

Students from EFLU who were dining there said that members of the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) entered the eatery, asked customers to leave, and announced that the restaurant would no longer be allowed to operate because it served beef. The restaurant, known for its Kerala-style dishes, reportedly offers traditional beef and parotta, a combination widely popular in Kerala, including among Hindus.

One of the locals involved in the protest said, “We locals thought it was a vegetarian restaurant and often came here for tea and snacks. But they sell beef here and use the same vessels for all cooking. They don’t even have a food trade license. Their menu has something called ‘BDF – beef dry fry’. Many people might have eaten it without knowing.”

While the police from Osmania University station did not respond to calls, witnesses said officers later arrived and stopped the situation from escalating further. No injuries were reported.

Beef consumption is not banned in Telangana, and several eateries across Hyderabad openly serve it. However, most mainstream restaurants avoid listing it on their menus.
