The Office of the Kashmir Times, one of the oldest English newspapers in Jammu and Kashmir, was raided on Thursday by the State Investigation Agency of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. According to a PTI report, officials said the raids were linked to allegations that the newspaper promoted activities against the country. An official claimed that a case was registered for what he described as glorification of actions that go against national interests.

Teams from the State Investigation Agency searched the newspaper’s office and examined computers in detail. A case has been filed against the publication and its promoters, and officials said they may be questioned soon.

Kashmir Times was started in 1954 by the well known journalist Ved Bhasin. It first appeared as a weekly before becoming a daily about ten years later. In 2020, the central government sealed the newspaper’s Srinagar office without giving a reason. For the past few years, the newspaper had stopped its print edition and has been running as a digital news platform since November 2023. Ved Bhasin’s daughter, Anuradha Bhasin, now serves as the executive editor.
