KGMU Doctor Ramizuddin Arrested in ‘Love Jihad’ Case; Father, Mother Also Detained by UP Police

KGMU Doctor Ramizuddin Arrested in ‘Love Jihad’ Case

Lucknow police have arrested Dr Ramizuddin, a junior resident at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), who was accused of forcibly converting a fellow doctor under the pretext of marriage. The arrest was made late Friday evening from the Thakurganj area of Lucknow, following a 17‑day manhunt during which the accused had remained absconding, reportedly moving across Uttar Pradesh and hiding near the Nepal border. A reward of ₹50,000 had been announced for information leading to his capture.

Director General of Police Rajeev Krishna said, “A non‑bailable warrant had been issued against the accused, and police teams conducted raids across four states before finally apprehending him. His parents, Salimuddin and Khateja, had already been arrested in connection with the case.”

The case first came to light on December 23, 2025, when a woman doctor pursuing an MD in Pathology at KGMU lodged a complaint at Chowk police station. She alleged that Dr Ramizuddin had established a physical relationship with her on the pretext of marriage, forced her to undergo an abortion, and later pressured her to convert to Islam as a condition for marriage. According to the complainant, her father filed complaints on the Chief Minister’s portal and with the Women’s Commission after the accused insisted on conversion.

Police said that Dr Ramizuddin had been absconding after the case was registered and was allegedly moving to avoid arrest, with some reports suggesting he attempted to enter Nepal. After his arrest, he was examined at Balrampur Hospital before being produced in court and sent to jail. Police have also initiated the process of attaching properties linked to him in Lucknow, Pilibhit, and Uttarakhand.

The KGMU administration has recommended Dr Ramizuddin’s termination following an internal probe. The seven-member university committee, headed by Dr KK Singh, found him guilty of concealing his previous marriage while pursuing a relationship with the complainant, stalking her after she learned about the prior marriage, and threatening to make the relationship and certain videos public. Dr Singh said, “Dr Ramizuddin not only violated rules but also tarnished the image of the institution by absconding for 15 days.”

Police said Dr Ramizuddin’s father, Salimuddin, who married four women in different states, all of whom were reportedly Hindu before marriage, and pressured them into conversion. Police allege that Salimuddin and Dr Ramizuddin, along with Qazi Zahid Hasan Rana, held private gatherings promoting radical ideology, with Dr Ramizuddin taking an active role in targeting Hindu women under the guise of medical support and trust.

Salimuddin and his wife Khateja were arrested on January 5 from their Lucknow residence. Officials said the father had married Khatija while his first wife was still alive, creating an environment that encouraged hostility towards Hindu society and targeting of women. Police say they are now examining the family’s activities and the possibility of an organized network behind these alleged conversions.

The complainant doctor met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on December 31, 2025, after which strict instructions were issued for immediate arrest. Police said that authorities may seek a 48-hour remand of Dr Ramizuddin for intensive questioning, focusing on the sequence of events, involvement of others, and digital evidence that could shed light on whether an organized network was operating behind the alleged crimes.
