A 45-year-old man was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping his 11-year-old daughter at knifepoint in a village in Baghpat district. The Class 6 student was alone at home when her mother stepped out to attend a wedding function on Tuesday. Police said the accused returned home drunk, threatened the girl with a knife, and assaulted her.
Baghpat Superintendent of Police Suraj Rai confirmed that the girl’s medical examination proved sexual assault. “When she arrived at the police station, she was visibly traumatized and unable to speak. A woman constable counseled her patiently, after which she gathered the courage to narrate the incident. She told police that her father had threatened to kill her and sexually assaulted her at knifepoint,” Rai said.
The girl also had bite marks and injuries all over her body. Her father had physically assaulted her and warned he would slit her throat.
Initially, the girl’s mother refused to report the crime due to fear of social stigma. The child then contacted her uncle, who lives in Delhi, and informed him about the assault. He approached the police and filed a complaint.
Station House Officer Atar Singh said an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the POCSO Act, and the Arms Act. “The accused was arrested from his house, and the knife used in the crime was recovered,” he added.
A team from Mission Shakti will provide psychological counseling to help the child recover from the trauma.
