A 45-year-old jeep mechanic was allegedly beaten to death by three men in front of his two young children in Bengaluru‘s Wilson Garden area on Sunday night after he refused to pay a protection money demand of Rs 50,000. The victim, identified as Rasheed Pasha, was attacked near Bada Makan Road at around 9 in the evening. He was rushed to hospital by local residents but succumbed to his injuries. His body has been shifted to Victoria Hospital for post-mortem.
How the Day Turned Deadly
Pasha had been constructing a small shop in the area and had carried out moulding work at the site on Sunday morning. According to police, three men who noticed the construction work approached him and demanded Rs 50,000 as mamool, a local term for protection money paid to extortionists. Pasha refused, leading to a heated argument.
The group left but returned in the evening around 8.30 and repeated the demand. When Pasha again refused to pay, the three men allegedly attacked him with a bat and bamboo sticks in a sustained assault before fleeing the scene. The entire attack took place in full view of Pasha’s two children who were with him at the time.
Locals rushed the critically injured man to a nearby hospital, but doctors were unable to save him.
Police Register Murder Case, Launch Search
Wilson Garden Police Station has registered a murder case and launched a search operation to trace the three accused. Central Division Deputy Commissioner of Police Akshay Machindra visited the scene and confirmed that a medico-legal case report had been received from the hospital.
“The victim was working here as a mechanic. A case has been registered and efforts are underway to trace the accused. The exact reason behind the incident is being investigated,” Machindra said.
Following the killing, a large number of locals gathered at the spot. A Karnataka State Reserve Police unit has been deployed in the area as a precautionary measure to prevent any further unrest.
