BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut has launched a sharp attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, calling him a “tapori” and alleging that his behaviour makes women feel uncomfortable.
Speaking to reporters in the Parliament complex, Ranaut said, “We women feel very uncomfortable seeing him. He comes across like a tapori and speaks to people in a disrespectful manner.”
She further added, “Rahul Gandhi himself is a shame,” intensifying her criticism of the Congress leader.
Comparison With Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
Ranaut also drew a comparison between Rahul Gandhi and his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
She said that Priyanka’s conduct is “graceful and cultured,” and suggested that Rahul Gandhi should learn from her public behaviour.
Row Linked to Parliament Protest
The remarks come amid an ongoing controversy over Rahul Gandhi’s actions during a protest at the Makar Dwar entrance of Parliament on March 12. Gandhi, along with other MPs, was seen sitting on the steps and having tea and snacks during a demonstration.
Former Bureaucrats Seek Apology
The incident has also drawn criticism from a group of former officials. An open letter signed by several retired bureaucrats, veterans and lawyers has asked Rahul Gandhi to apologise, calling his conduct “deeply concerning.”
Former Jammu and Kashmir DGP S P Vaid said the behaviour was not appropriate for someone holding the position of Leader of Opposition.
“Parliament is not a place for political theatre,” he said, adding that Gandhi’s actions reflected “a sense of entitlement and disregard for decorum.”
Political Reactions Intensify
The controversy has added to the ongoing political tensions between the BJP and Congress, with leaders from both sides expected to respond.
While the ruling party has accused Rahul Gandhi of undermining parliamentary norms, opposition leaders have often defended such protests as part of democratic expression.
