Aligarh police have suspended a constable and registered a case against him after a 25-year-old rape survivor accused him of demanding sexual favours in exchange for filing her complaint. The incident has sparked outrage in western Uttar Pradesh, highlighting serious concerns about misconduct within law enforcement.
Victim Records Conversations
According to police sources, Constable Imran Khan, posted at Quarsi police station, allegedly told the woman that her complaint against her alleged rapist would only be acted upon if she “obliged” him at a hotel. The survivor recorded the phone conversations, which reportedly revealed Khan’s repeated attempts to coerce her.
“If you send me a sexy photo of yourself right now, I will get you clothes for Eid… come with me to the hotel. We share the same religion… I will send him to jail and get a case registered against him; in return, you will have to sleep with me,” the constable allegedly said.
The woman also alleged that Khan threatened her by swearing on the Holy Quran. “He told me that if I did not agree and shared the conversation with anyone, he would end his life. He warned that no action would be taken against the accused; instead, I would be sent to jail,” she told authorities.
Background of the Case
The survivor had approached the Quarsi police station weeks ago, alleging that a man had raped her under the false promise of marriage. She had also submitted her complaint through the Chief Minister’s Integrated Grievance Redressal System (IGRS) portal.
Instead of acting on her complaint, police sources said, the constable allegedly contacted her repeatedly, collecting personal details and mounting pressure for sexual favours via phone calls and messages. “The survivor acted bravely, recording all conversations and approaching senior police officials,” a source said.
Action by Aligarh Police
Following her complaint, Aligarh Senior Superintendent of Police Neeraj Kumar Jadaun immediately ordered the suspension of Constable Imran Khan and directed that a First Information Report (FIR) be registered against him on Wednesday. The accused has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Samhita (BNS), including sexual harassment and criminal intimidation.
“The police are taking this matter very seriously. Strict action will be taken against the constable, and the investigation is ongoing,” a senior official said.
