“Give Me 11 MLAs”: AIMIM Leader’s ‘Encounter for Encounter’ Remark Sparks Row, 3 Arrested

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen leaders arrested in Meerut after a viral video of alleged provocative speeches at an Eid event.

Police in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut have arrested three senior leaders of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) for allegedly delivering provocative speeches that could disturb communal harmony.

The arrests were made following a viral video from an Eid Milan programme held on March 23 at a farmhouse in Hajipur village. Police said the event was organised without prior permission.

Three Leaders Arrested, Case Filed Against Others

Those arrested include AIMIM’s western Uttar Pradesh president Mahtab Chauhan, metropolitan president Imran Ansari, and metropolitan secretary Raji Siddiqui.

According to police, they were detained during late-night raids after the video from the gathering surfaced on social media.

Officials said a case has been registered at Lohiyanagar police station against six named individuals, including AIMIM state president Shaukat Ali, along with several unidentified persons.

Controversial Speech Sparks Action

The action follows a purported video clip in which Shaukat Ali is heard making a controversial statement regarding alleged police encounters.

In the video, he reportedly says, “Give me just 11 MLAs, and I promise that if a Muslim is killed in an encounter in Uttar Pradesh, those responsible for the encounter will also face an encounter.”

The remark, made in the context of the 2027 Assembly elections, triggered widespread criticism and drew police attention.

Police Say Speeches Could Disturb Harmony

Antriksh Jain, Assistant Superintendent of Police, said that the speeches were aimed at creating division.

“The speeches were intended to create enmity between different religions and communities and affect law and order,” he said.

Police have warned that strict action will be taken against anyone trying to disturb peace or incite tensions.

“Event Held Without Permission”

Authorities also pointed out that the Eid Milan event itself was conducted without official permission, which added to the seriousness of the case.

The gathering took place at a farmhouse on Hapur Road and was attended by party workers and supporters.

More Arrests Likely

Police said efforts are ongoing to trace and arrest the remaining accused, including those named in the FIR and others seen in the viral video.

Officials have emphasised a zero-tolerance approach toward hate speech, especially in the run-up to future elections.

Political Reactions and Growing Concerns

The incident has sparked a political row, with critics calling the remarks inflammatory. Uttar Pradesh minister Om Prakash Rajbhar condemned the statement, describing it as irresponsible.

At the same time, AIMIM leaders in the speech reportedly criticised parties like the Samajwadi Party and Congress, accusing them of failing to protect Muslim interests and urging the community to unite.
