The Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has issued a notice to Maulana Badruddin Ajmal, seeking a written explanation within 24 hours over allegations that he supported a “communal political party” during a recent election campaign.
In a statement released in New Delhi on April 4, the organisation said the notice was sent to Ajmal, who is also associated with Jamiat Ulama Assam, over actions that allegedly go against the group’s long-standing principles.
Organisation cites 1951 policy on political neutrality
The notice, issued by General Secretary Maulana Hakimuddin Qasmi, referred to a key policy adopted shortly after Independence during a Working Committee meeting held on August 17–18, 1951, under the leadership of Maulana Syed Husain Ahmad Madani.
According to the organisation, this policy clearly states that its members and office-bearers must not associate with communal organisations or parties.
Instead, they are expected to align only with political forces that support national unity, constitutional values, and democratic principles.

Allegations of deviation from core principles
The Jamiat alleged that Ajmal entered into an understanding with a communal party during the recent elections and extended open support to it.
The organisation described this as a “clear departure” from its foundational principles and internal guidelines.
In the notice, Ajmal has been asked to explain the “objectives, circumstances, and basis” of his alleged actions.
The statement said that if Ajmal’s response is found unsatisfactory, appropriate action will be taken as per the organisation’s constitution and rules.
